We’ve all heard the latest marketing buzz about QR codes. In case you haven’t, let me fill you in:

QR code for Streak Creative

QR stands for “quick response.” So, basically a QR code is good for getting people with web-capable devices to a web site, file, or some text information (a quick response). These days, we see them most often used on print marketing pieces to link to a web site.

QR codes work like this:

A potential customer sees a QR code in a printed advertisement

They scan the QR code with a reader (usually on their phone or tablet)

The code takes them to a web page with special promotional material

Where many small businesses get it wrong

Print materials driving traffic to your web site sounds great on paper. But in order to convert QR code visitors into customers, it is important to consider the device that they are using to read the code.

Most people aren’t going to hold your business card or direct mail piece up to a web cam to read the code. But they might use their smart phone! This gives you an opportunity to tell your customer that you care about their specific needs by providing them a mobile optimized web experience.

Making your site mobile

There are too many different approaches to “mobifying” a web site to cover them all in this little article about QR codes. Suffice it to say that if you use QR codes, your web site needs to be optimized for mobile devices like iPhones, Android handsets, tablets, and iPads.

We at Streak Creative would love to help you out in this area. You should contact us to get started!

We here at Streak have been very busy these past few months. With all the work we’ve been doing moving web sites to our brand new server and keeping other sites up to date, our own site has been feeling a bit neglected!

Rest assured, our clients have been kept very happy! But as the old adage goes, “The cobbler’s children have no shoes.”

In any case, stay tuned! We’ve had a chance to regroup a bit over the holidays and we’ve got some great ideas for this site, including a brand new blog where we’ll share some ideas for increasing your business as well as some informative articles about how we do what we do!
